View Full Version : Removing start code from OBC

Instead of the standard digital clock/thermometer display I installed an OBC. It worked good, till somebody messed with code function. Now when I turn the ignition on the code button lights up and a 15minute countdown starts (14:59; 14:58 and so on). Nothing functions, instrument cluster is off. I think somebody accidentally entered an engine start code. Disconnected the OBC and inserted the old one. Engine starts and runs good. Never tried to see what happens after the countdown goes to zero.

How can I remove that code?

Let it go to zero and it should clear itself.

Are you sure? What if it engages some other thing which will prevent the engine from starting at all? It wouldn't be logical also; what use of a code function if the engine will start anyway after 15 minutes?

Yes I am sure. (RTFM)

I had to do that very thing because I had misentered my usual code. So it's fifteen minutes penalty waiting with the key in the on position.

Seems like rather useless feature then. Car thieve will just have to wait for 15 minutes.

If they're not too dumb to figure it out, probably. Not many thieves out there might want to wait 15 minutes of stress with wires dangling, and maybe a broken window. It's a difficult task enough that I would target another car, easier than this.

I'm glad for my part that I can at least reset the thing, thus allowing me to be perfectly human. I still use it to keep the odds in my favour because most thieves are not that smart nor patient.

Besides you have to unplug the battery a few moments to get to the countdown. Otherwise the car just honks away.

He would need your key... and if he had that it really wouldn't matter.

Waited for 15 minutes and it worked again. Thanks.
