Looking for clarification about radiator / fan shroud attachment

My (recently new to me) '94 530i was missing some parts securing the fan shroud to the radiator, and evidently the radiator to the frame (at the top end).

I'm looking at this parts explosion:

And I am wondering how, exactly, 7 and 8 work together, and especially what 7 attaches to.

I searched a bit on the forums, but the signal to noise ratio wasn't working for me :)

Take a look at the second image, specifically below the washer fluid hoses. You'll see #7. Its a press fit into #8 which fits in a recess in the rad. The other end of #8 fits on the rad support (the hunk of metal that supports the rad, go figure) with the aid of some funny teethy grabber things, don't worry, its self explanatory when holding it in your hand. They're easy to fit, but not so easy to remove without damaging, especially when old (brittle). Cheap to buy from the dealer as well.

I would get them replaced and the whole lot secured ASAP - they are cheap from a dealer I believe. I got my rad replaced at a garage ( I know it was a new car then and I looked at the big V8 and **** myself). They broke one of these and didn't bother replacing it, they also broke the plastic shroud around the rad at the bottom, they must have forced it in between the fan and rad trying to fit it and broken it i the process. The result? A few days later the shroud came off and fell straight into the fan - both were shot to ****. Lots of razor sharp plastic bits everywhere - the new rad was damaged but not leaking luckily and I escaped any serious damage anywhere - could have been a lot worse. In the end I had to shell out for a new shroud, fan and clips.

#7 and #8 have nothing to do with the fan shroud. They (2 sets of each) secure the radiator to the car body. The fan shroud is secured to the radiator by #13.
