coolant level sensor,1989 520-I

resevoir tank part of radiator.my sensor is bad and i dont want to drop the coolant at this time to change the sensor.can i simply short this plug or is there a specific resistance signal required for the circuit. i know this is shade tree mechanics but as long as i dont harm the diagnostics i open the hood daily just to tinker around and would not allow a coolant leak to go unnoticed.

There is no specific resistance -- the sensor uses a simple magnetic reed switch. You can just short the plug.
