So I'm looking for a magnaflow muffler for my 89 535i.
The selection on www.summitracing.com is insane...which should I get?
(I already have magnaflow cats)
etcetera

I've been thinking of the same thing lately.
Did the cats make a big improvement?

I doubt it would make an improvement, and it'll let in more dirt than OEM.
I've toyed with making a nice box of aluminum and intake pipe with mandrel bent tubing and using the cone filter used in 2001 or so v8 and v10 ford trucks. It's a huge filter, and it's paper. Probably flows double the OEM bmw filter and it'll be clean air. Wrap the tubing in some type of heat shield. I think the biggest gain would be eliminating the accordion elbow into the throttle body. It might not make more power, but it would look cool.

Yeah bimmerworld has a tube to replace the accordian they claim a ridiculous 8-10 hp gain i'd get it just cuz it looks cool.
