FYI...All of these happened BEFORE I owned the car.
The jack spot is below this so I believe the PO did this one with the jack positioned too close to the door.

This one boggles my mind.
It is just below the trunk door when its closed.
I have no idea how the PO even did this,
nothing else around it was touched!

This is my "favorite" (...one to hate)!
The PO must have left a tool on the engine and then closed the hood.
The dent is pushed up through the hood.

Crap, now I'm going to have to find the photo of my 535i sport that had an argument with a 40's british post box...
I'd post about my '89 but not enough bandwidth.

Good work!!
Man, she'd had a rough life til you came along!!
Glad to see you took the time and effort, not to mention the gamble on such a mistreated E34, to bring her back to life!!

Thanks! Actually, contrary to appearances, it hadn't been mistreated! - i bought it from the son of the original owner, who was a student and had had the car about a year, and couldn't afford to repair the body damage. Someone backed into him and he hit a mail box avoiding a pothole, to do all that nastiness. When I first saw the damage, I instantly thought "mistreated car", but then he brought out the service records which dated back to the date of purchase, even with oil change receipts, and I breathed a sigh of relief. It had 353 000 km's on it when I bought it, and now it's above 377 000 with no issues - knock on wood. The car is also rust free with a MINT interior. I really lucked out.
This board has certainly taught me a lot about these cars and I enjoy doing most of the work myself. I couldn't stand to see those dents on the car any longer. The entire side was sprayed, and the front bumper was rebuilt and re sprayed, and I replaced all the necessary trim. It's a work in progress!

I dont want to make anyone cry, but that same thing happened to my hood the weekend before last, except maybe even a touch worse. A motor mount broke, allowing the engine to torque upwards driving the fan into the hood. At least mine already had a dent or two. Eh, i will buy a new hood and get it painted. Im just worried about non-OEM hoods being thin.

Mine has a couple of little outwards dents like that from when the radiator fan decided to try and escape... Not very noticable though.
Other than that, just a trolley dent.. Needless to say I don't park my car in the same spot while at work.

Heh, I have the exact same dents as the OP at pretty much the same locations albeit slightly less severe. Apart from the one on the trunk though.
I bought mine with a shattered front bumper and a broken rear bumper skirt. Those have been replaced. The dents have been massaged back into a reasonable and hardly noticeable place. Still need to work on the paint finish.
The PO was a bit of tinkerer with not much knowledge on these cars.
