getting hot air blowing from bottom vents...cold in the middle ones...independent dealer ask if I cut something when I changed the microfilter...what does this mean is it the heater core?

I suppose, if it happened after changing the microfilter that You probably moved some of the connectors for the stepper motors which are directing the airflow through the vents. I have a same problem (left side always warm - right side adjustable) checked everything, and all is fine just have no time to dismantle the center console to take a look a those motors.
