This car (and e34's in general) are new to me so I wanted to confirm she is running within normal ranges.
'94 530i...
at Idle: 500 RPM
50 MPH: 1500 RPM
70 MPH: 2100 RPM
80 MPH: 2500 RPM
All speeds are sustained (not accelerating or coasting).
A/C was turned off.
Also tested with A/C on and showed little difference.
TIA

According to BMW's description of the M60 engine, the spec for the M60 engine is 600rpm +/- 50rpm. So yours is maybe a little low.
Having said that, mine sometimes idles at 400rpm (and I'd love to know why!).

i have the same problem with my m20...normally idles 750rpm but when stuck at traffic or soo it goes down to 550-600rpm and ilove to know why also...changed the icv couple of times, s.plugs, CPS, fuel/air filter, coil , cleaned injectors , f.p. regulator still the same...cheched for vacumm leaks too. there are none

Mine's a 525 no a/c and the figures are about the same - although idle is around 700-750

What differential do you have to be going 2500rpm @ 80mph in a 525iA :(

Haven't got a clue - it was what was in it when I bought it & until I need to get at it for some reason I don't care....:D
I've got the 5 speed auto tranny just in case you're wondering.

I just got a 3.15 LSD put in and in 5th gear at 85 miles an hour I'm at 3500 rpm

If your tach reads really low, it doesn't matter what gear you are running!:D
I guess I should get off my butt and break out the soldering iron...

I don't think the tacho is reading low - it matches up with an external tacho & if I run the tranny in sport mode it holds the RPM to 6500 in all gears like it should.
The speedo is OK as it agrees with my sat-nav.
Oh well, who cares as long as it works!! :D
