I just swiped a refridgerant gauge set from my grandfather's house (better I did it than someone else, at least when my grandfather asks for it back, I will actually be in a position to do so...) but neglected to see that it was only marked for r12-22-502. will the hose set fit on and/or measure r134 accurately? thanks.

R134a adapters are different from R12 for example. That is to avoid filling wrong stuff.
Here you see the difference R12 > R134a

hit harbor freight or the bay for a cheepo 134 set unless you can find the adapters to attach 134 valves on the 12 hoses, they exist

i know that r12 and 134 have different sized orifaces, but was wondering if 22 or 502 were the same size as 134. i don't know anything about 502, and i haven't ever compared the fittings on 22 and 134.

r134 uses a completely different valve, it's more like a air tool coupler where the others are like a normal schrader valve kinda like on a tire

12,22 and 502. Back then they all took the same schraeder valve, the tech was responsible for knowing what refrigerant was in the system. 502 is used in low temp applications like freezers. You can buy fittings to adapt the hoses over to r134 but they are around 11 bucks for each one. By the time you get all the ones you need to convert from 22 to the r134a fittings you're better off buying the new gauge and hose set from harbor freight when it goes on sale for 29.99. I keep 2 of those sets around for spares in case my Robinair gauges die.
