tried to go to sleep at 6 pm, been a hard week...after petering around for 3 hours unsuccessfully, decided to get up and add up the gallonage on the receipts for my trip from orlando florida to toronto ontario. initially, i thought that i got about 24 mpg to ontario, and 27 back. welllll, it seems that the obc is off by far more than i thought. on the trip there, a distance of 1450 miles covered in 19 and 3/4 hours i really got 31.1 mpg, on 45 gallons of fuel added up from the receipts. on the trip back, accomplished in 20 hours 30 mins, distance of 1485 miles, got an average of 28.0 mpg, consuming roughly 54 gallons of gas. i think the return trip average was lowered because my uncle, as a nicety, filled the tank up with 87 octane, as the price for gas in ontario was around .85cents per litre. the 31 is remarkable because i'd estimate that the octane going down was slightly under 90 on average. passenger weight was about 390lbs, 200 lbs of luggage/breakdown tool kit/cargo, pressure front 36psi, 38psi rear on 225 60 15. i don't particularly care what anyone has to say about the displacement of the m50, i'd say these are pretty decent numbers for a 3600 lb unladen car, AT, with a 4.10 rear end at the speeds i drove at. mark did an exceptional job.
