Found this outside today. Can I keep him dad? Please! Please! Please! I promise to care for him, feed him and even walk him! ;)
Just picked up this e28 535is. I ****in love this car, original owner, real nice guy. The amount of care that this car recieved is ridiculous. 4 inches of service records, sport seats are in great condition, all the electronics work, and ZOMG EVERY tool is in the tool kit, including the original fuses and shammy. :rofl is front spoiler is in perfect condition, and the best part, no rust!

Honestly, you should skip the claybar.
It's so far oxidized you should hit it with a heavy compound and remove not only the oxidation but that crud left in the paint as well.
If you need any recommendations on how / what machines+pads and such, let me know.

Now, when you say for Dave M, I'm assuming I can come pick it up whenever I'd like ;)
Wow, you are a lucky SOB and I hate you for it. That is exactly what I want, even one of my two preferred colors. Once the paint is prettied up, its gonna look incredible. May I ask what ballpark the price was in?
My wife was just saying how badly our next house needs to include a bigger garage to accomodate the inevitable e28 and 911. I really do love her :D
Did I mention I'm a tad jealous?
Congats on a great find,
Dave

Very good catch in a rare color too!
I second the motion to use a heavy compound and get the oxidization out first. Basically, you are going to micro-sand the finish to get the top layer of crud out. Then lay down some nice polish topped off with some carnuba or synthetic (depending on your weather and choice). It'll take at least a good 5 hours to do it right. (wash, dry, heavy compound, buffing, polish, buffing, wax, buffing, detailing).
The E28 535is has some of the most attractive features of the E28 M5 such as sports suspension, nimble handling, very very responsive with instant response compared to the E34 and later models. The engine is still based on the reliable M30 and parts are not difficult to find. You can even turbo that engine or keep it NA (I would keep it NA with perhaps a hotter cam). For twisty roads, it is probably more entertaining than an E34 although it will lack all out power. All this without the cost of the maintenance on the E28 M5's engine. If you want some induction noise, change the filter to a cone filter.
Don't be too tempted to increase the width of the tires radically as this will takeaway from the nimbleness of the car. Renew the suspension and give her a tune up and it will be smiles for miles.
Once you have the basic suspension renewed (thrust arms, bushings, sway bar end links, steering idler arm), you may wish to consider changing the springs to Eibach ProKit with Koni adjustable shocks depending on the condition of your existing springs.
If your suspension is in good condition and you don't have to spring for many new parts, then fit a set of really good tires on it. Just fresh new generation tires will greatly improve the handling of the car. Then you'll want a strut tower bar if the stickier tires go on.

Yeah I have to do: pitman arms, diff. mount, and maybe a center bearing just to get it driving 100% so I can drive it to school.
