sachs suspension blown

so i'm at work and my mech calls saying my rear shocks are bad and need to be replaced....

i'm at work and in school and don't really have time to play with the car so what should i do?

i dont have my orig box or reciepts for the shocks/springs...
don't even remeber where i got them from =\

Seems like anything under 75k miles is too early for them to wear out.

I just got some HD's, but haven't installed them, and now I'm worried.

You can only get a sachs kit from a few places. Bma/Bavauto/Arizona whateverthefk. Call all of them and ask if you have that on your account.

Sounds normal to me... Sach/Boge shocks are twin-tubes... and that is about right for the lifespan...

Only Bilstein in my experience last forever. I actually never bought new shocks after installing Bilstein.

That can't be right? Didn't Sachs/Boge come original on my 89 525i? My originals had 260,000 miles and were still working.

yah i don't expect shocks to go out in 30-50 thou miles....

esp not aftermarket ones

i've been on the e34 forums for some time now and have yet to see a thread about the sachs kit giving out

either i drove them really hard or with too much weight or my mech is diagnosing the problem wrong...

in any case i did send an email to bma askin about some stuff

maybe i'll do a little upgrade =]

I know of one other person who has had a Sachs shock in the sachs kit leak oil. Since it was bought from BMA, they made it easy to get the warranty. Check to see if there is a lifetime warranty
(or prorated) on the Sachs Kit plus if there is a replacement shock that you could purchase only. Give BMA a call and they can find that for you. I have had my kit for almost 75k miles and no blown shocks here. For all the Sachs kits on the e34s, counting only a handful of single e34 shocks leaking oil throughout the years is pretty good to me.

One thing I do notice with shocks is if the bumpstops are too short the strut/shock can blow or leak oil easier. It can reduce the life. So, if you cut your own bumpstops, perhaps it was too short, or perhaps try cutting another one a little taller when the replacement comes in. If your Sachs kit came with the bumpstops (my kit did not as the odler ones didn't) then you can rule the bumpstop out. It was your driving or the road conditions. Hmm, maybe your driving ;)

As far as warranty on all brands of shocks, they can take days to get your replacement. You might also have to send your old ones back. See what BMA can do for you. If you like how the Sachs Kit has been treating you, then why change something good. I would stay with the same kit.
