If you wnat to knock yourself out here are a bunch better pics.. http://home.comcast.net/~cpkver8/index.html
Colors are fine, I've never been a fan of the black kidneys on black bimmer. Its sad you went with the shadowline Now the wheels' lip will look a tad out of place. ..... make them black too >:]
If you smoke the kidneys and corners.... I'd suggest smoking the headlights. That'd be baddassssss.
Always loved your 5, so I'll deal with whatever route you go :D
its Oxford Green not Black.. I dislike the chrome and have always liked the shadowline . I've seen it on the green and i didn't think it looked badly. I got a fairly light tint on the tails . I think, haven't actually seen them yet but going on the sample at the shop they're not agressively blacked. Nothing is irreversable though so I can always get a set of chrome again if I end up disliking the blacked. They did it in Matte , not gloss or flat and the ebay kidneys look shinier than i expect the trim to.

looks kinda gay
all the definition of the design of car is lost in a wash of sterile monochrome.
Next time you head to the Cape, go to P Town and have a few drinks at the Atlantic House, they'll love your car.

...Sometimes I can be ashamed of my own community.
What the heck was that?
I think the comments above are uncalled for IMHO.
Yet, to stay on topic,
The black kidneys would look better on a light color car.

Wow, why so rude to other members...
I'm not doing anything to be ashamed of, I just don't think that was cool & feel it's completely justified to point it out.
Am I being unreasonable?
Really doesn't make me want to be involved with this board if people are bashing for no reason.
Bob, I know that you know better.

Those wheels... my first thought was 'why's he posted a picture of an Audi?'
Crappy pics I know, but I never did like the chrome down the side of the vehicle:

you guys...........
always finding something to squable over ;) Jehu, if I saw the black kidneys for $40, I would have bought em rather than painting mine. I think it was Abrahams that has em, but a bit more expensive.
Bob, I painted mine orange :D

Yeah, I said black bimmer as a general statement. I'm not a huge fan of black kidneys on DARK bimmers.
I'll be awaiting pics, I'm sure you'll pull it off well.

Eww, no.
There is no definition/contrast. Yuck.
If you have polished lips you need chrome trim.
I am an iconoclast. Seeing the pics of shadowline with chrome kidney i don't suppose it clashes badly.

So I guess its just me then that prefers the shadowline trim for the grill on darker cars! I think they both look good but personally I prefer the shadowline.
I think Matt is better but the grilles for sale look gloss or is that just the pics? I used shadowline tape on my grilles so I can reverse if I want to.

Manufacturers do it all the time, they replace chrome for black trim for a sportier look.

Yea, the replacements in the ebay auction are shiny plastic , that's why i asked if anyone had seen them in "real life" wondering if they were still that glossy.
I found another place (http://www.autowerks.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=23173&cat=691&page=1) that may have them in a matte finish. Gonna check into that.

I wouldn't black out the grill on my Alpine car.
What you have to understand is that the CHROME kidneys are signature BMW. Not just twin kidneys. So you're stripping it of it's most-recognizable trademark.
BMW does shadowline too on sport models, but they sure as hell don't black out the kidneys. And the only exception to the polished lips is the E38 Sport, with polished-lip M-Parallels and Shadowline. Doesn't quite look right.

How 'bout some 80's gold trim?
Do the whole nine yards, grill, window trim, door handles, badges and a set of those unforgettable fender guards.
then get Don Johnson to autograph it.

But so are the twin headlights. I see where you're coming from but I guess I just don't agree. I mean its not exactly a body kit is it...or anything else that completely changes the look.

To each his own. It's up to personal preference. I personally don't like them.

I don't really consider my lips polished. they are painted as far as i am aware they are not polished bare metal. While not being a brushed aluminum they don't have that shiny polished metal appearance.

Not that I want to argue but it most clearly does have contrast, its not a sharp contrast yet it is amply evident and to my eye its subtlty is preferable to the flashy chrome look which in my opinion is cheap looking.

not a super fan of the glossy black kidneys, at least not against black. I did mine in a textured satin black... not super great definition on a monitor but IRL they stand out just fine against the gloss black.
Your car, ignore lightning war bob. It should be an expression of your taste, and I think they'll look just fine on a green car. The V8s always look a little funky to me anyway with those huge chrome trim rings.
