E34 530

Well I bought the e28 a few weeks ago and rummaging around I saw 2 remotes in the glovebox. I tore the car apart trying to find the keyless entry unit. Unlike the e34, it wasn't under the rear seat. I finally managed to find it tucked in the roof of the glovebox. To my surprise, I was somehow able to actually get it working, in sync with the siren in the engine bay and all. The alarm is an oem BMW unit, but upon looking through service records and reciepts, it seemed the po had it installed about 4-5 years after he purchased the car new.
I have one problem though, when pressing the button for the doors to lock, they will all go correctly down and the alarm will set, but they will only stay down for about 1 second and all come back up again. Any ideas?
Btw, the central locking works correctly if I use the key to lock the doors.
Here's a picture of the unit I have in my car:
