Are the alignment specs different between the 525i and the M5? I'm getting ready to have my '95 525i aligned (just put on the 17" Pirelli WinterSport 210s w/M5 wheels and took off the 17" O.Z.s with Avon all-seasons) and I want to go in armed with proper specs. I realize toe is the only adjustable-without-replacement measurement. I'm asking particularly since my car is lowered with RD springs and runs 17" wheels. Specifically, does the M5 call for different toe specs than a "normal" E34 and, if so, shouldn't I be using something closer to that on a lowered car with 17" wheels? I've made a search for the specs but can't find references to the M5, either on this site or in the BMW repair manual. BMWe34.net lists one simple generic E34 toe setting: "Make sure front toe (alignment) is correctly set at .08 " toe-in." E34 Bentley manual lists 0° 18' (± 5') for std, sport, and M-tech suspensions but does not specify for M5. Camber and caster are different for all three suspension types.

Any tips for alignment specs to help guide a competent shop that is not BMW-specific? TIA.

Point will soon be moot. I'm headed to the alignment shop in fifteen minutes. I'll ask what they show for both cars. Or maybe they'll ask me since it has M5 wheels on it and no model badging. Fat chance!

No problem. They set it to 1/16" both sides, total toe 1/8", and gave me the print out. Feels good, the steering wheel tracks straight, it goes straight down the highway without having to correct, doesn't seem to have lost any crispness in the handling department, and it's not tramming. Time will tell, especially when I take the snows off.

Great question- I am also going to 17x8 inch style 32 wheels very soon on Michelin Exalto A/S tires.

What is the difference between kingpin inclination and caster?

Thanks for the chart. Looks like the bit of extra toe I got is right in line with the M5 specs. Just guessing because I can't figure out how to convert degrees and minutes to inches! Do you happen to have the specs for rear camber, too?
