I recently changed wheels on my 1989 535i from the stock 15” Style 5’s with the 7” wide rim and ET 20 offset and 225/60 R15 tires to some 16” Style 61’s (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=GH83&mospid=47531&btnr=36_0382&hg=36&fg=15) with 7 1/2” and the rims and the same ET 20 offset. These have Bridgestone’s Potenzas (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Potenza+RE960AS+Pole+Position&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=255WR6RE960PP&fromCompare1=yes&place=3&speed_rating=W) with 225/55 R16 tires.
The tire shop told me the rear tires are now too big to take “S” regular or even cable type snow chains (they will rub). I’m not sure if they are right or if they are just trying to sell me some new snow tires for the now unused stock 15” rims.
Anyone running chains with 225/55 R15’s and similar wheels?
Will chains fit OK?

Thanks

Jim

Dumb question. It is all the same (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html), practically speaking.

this from the guy who doesn't buy winter tires. maybe you don't see any Canadians use them where YOU live, but that's hardly representative of the entire country.
