Upper radiator hose

The upper radiator hose on my 1992 535i is leaking. To what does the smaller section (the section that snakes back toward the firewall) connect? How do I get to it? This seems like it should be simple ... help!

The small diameter hose leads to the heater core connections. Be careful when you snake the hose back in position as there are a few sharp bits under the manifold which will make quick work of your hands. Also, feel along the hose and locate the retaining clips underneath the manifold. Try to disconnect those before pulling on the hose. Overall, its a pretty simple job. Avoid the starter wiring (unless you like shocks :)) and as you thread the hose in try to follow the same path as the other rubber hose running under the intake manifold. HTH

Tie a string on the heater end when you pull the old one out to guide you back through the maze.
