View Full Version : is the MAF servicable?
Here's one that Paul Oxford wrote up (AFM):

If you poke around the roadfly e34 archives, you'll find more info. Bill R. was involved in numerous posts.

Thanks shogun.
A '90 M30 has an AFM (volume)air flow meter. It is a mechanical device with adjustment also the contacts inside can be cleaned.
A MASS airflow meter is pretty much unserviceable.
EDIT: Look to gales posted link

So I finally got the time to dig into this. I was getting the check engine light again today on a 400 mile trip to Chicago and back. Gas mileage is off about 3 miles per gallon from last Summer. I only got 16 mpg. I decided to take it off and see what was happening. It looks just like the one in link the previous post. I have 4 terminals on the side. The Haynes wonder manual says check between terminals 7 and 8. There are 1 and 2 molded into the plastic connector in a similar position. I got wavy resistance out in the 30 degree F garage before I disassembled it. On the bench I get continuity in the 70 degree house. There appears to be a temp sensor that may be closing up. I did the alcohol wipe down like the link says and will go out to the car with it. One of the two small wires under the cover is not attached. I am hesitant to solder it because it's so fine. I may try some liquid something so I don't toast it. I would welcome feedback on the infinite resistance and the fact that the small wire is loose. What should I expect when I run the car?
