Anyone come across this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARMNR2MKRlM

I saw this a while back but somehow encountered it again today. I know these are solid cars but at high speeds its scary to think that we'd be better off in just about any new car. Not very scientific but.. still. Ouch.

Saw it when it was first on TV here. Sure the guy said even new cars doing 60 wouldnt fare much better. Frightening. But we have short term memories so we will all be jumping into our cars as normal in the morning. I hope so anyway

Um, I fail to see the point of that. It looks as if I'd be in better shape in the e34 than the Volvo.

i've been in some really really bad car accidents, and i've been curious as to how the e34 would protect me. It's smaller than other cars I have owned, so it makes me a bit nervous, but it's still a decent size.

crashes at the speeds shown in that video are survivable.

Not saying the e34 is unsafe, this is a fairly extreme example (though worse crashes do happen) You'd be dead in either, just interesting to see. I thought the camera in the interior of the e34 at the moment of the crash was particularly jolting. The e34 was clearly much more rigid than the volvo, but the impact force all went to the cabin/driver. They didn't really shoq the inside of the volvo, it looks like the front just crumbled and it flipped when the impact started to reach the passenger compartment.

I think the mira guy said nobody would OK. On a rather sickening note, wonder what the outcome of 2 x E34s head on would be? All safe and sound? Lets just wave instead

at the end he says a modern car wouldn't survive it either!!!

And the tests were with U.K. spec cars.....

The E34 is still one safe car folks.....

Drive happy...and drive smart ;)

Not even sure what they were trying to prove with that. What did they expect to happen?

its a shame, that bimmer didn't look bad at all. they could have used an e34 in worse shape (like mine)

The e34 looked like it was going much faster than the volvo at the moment of impact. Not all of the energy went into the impact though, it could have been even worse. The e34 went off the road and rolled a bit, which would probably raise your chances of survival.

At the end of the day if you were driving that Volvo you probably would have already slit your wrists (length-ways) before you crashed if you have any sense...
