Kickdown Switch Repair?

I can't find anything in the Bentley repair manual on how to remove it. I noticed that the one wire connected to it has come off and i can't reconnect it the the space i have to work with behind the pedal. Anyone have experience with this?

the switch unscrews anticlockwise.

while you're down there... on the off-chance you find out where the wire from the switch goes (mine was disconnected by po and i have looked everywhere under the carpet!) i sure would appreciate the info, i want to hook it up sooooo bad!

To answer your question about the wire, it's pin 2 of the big connector at the trans computer, should be Gray with Yellow stripe. It may have rotted off and broke under the carpet. Take off the kick-panel and peel the carpet back to see if it's lost under there. It's part of the transmission harness, so it runs from the passenger kickwell under the carpet to the shifter console area, then under the carpet to the kick-down switch.

I gotta take the Kickdown switch out all together because I nolonger have an auto

with a little patience and luck, you can get it. It is a female flat-blade style push-on connector on the wire and a male on the switch. They can be kinda hard to unscrew the actual body of the switch from the floorboard if they have been there for years and exposed to any moisture.

As for those who can't find the wire, you may have to pull up some carpet to find it. Without the switch connected and working, you can't do the handy "stomp test" to get engine codes.

my switch isn't connected and i get the codes fine. i think it's more the distance the pedal travels to the floor...

sorry for stealing your thunder there, ice- you posted that to a thread i started a while back and i kept it handy - thanks for the info, another job to put on my spring list.

Without the switch connected and working, you can't do the handy "stomp test" to get engine codes.

The kickdown switch has no connection to the DME. DME uses the WOT switch on the TPS to activate the 'stomp test'.

If you remove the kickdown switch (like for a manual trans swap), you should replace it with 35-41-1-159-345 so that the pedal has something to stop it at WOT instead of possibly damaging the throttle body and/or TPS by trying to force them beyond they're designed range of motion.
