It's well knowed that the CD43 is a nice upgrade for the E34 and compatible with existing cabling / amplifier / trunk CD charger for the E34 1992 + but does some boddy ever check if it's possible to substitut teh CD43 to existing radio / cassette player of E34 (535) 1989 not equip with the trunk CD charger ?

Perhaps the incompatibility of the CD43 with E34 1989-1991 is partial and only du to the fact that it can't control the trunk CD charger... but if you don't have the CD charger option you don't have to care about it !

Where there is real the incompatibility between the CD43 and the E34 1989amplifier (module in the trunk) purhaps a swap of this amp by a more recent model will solve the problem. Does some boddy have tried or knows something about this ?

George Mann did a write-up on this a few years ago:

A few pins will have to be swapped in the plug and you'll need to get an antenna adapter fitting. Shogun has posted recently about his homemade pin extractor tool made from appropriate size tubing.

It will render the trunk CD changer useless, unless you upgrade the changer & cable. An Alpine CHA-630 or 635 stacker will work with the CD43 with a newer cable. The CHA-635 plays mp3's. The CD43 is a nice sounding head unit and there are numerous plug-n-play iPod adapters that work with it.

I have a 1989 535i (build date 11/88) without the cd changer and have installed the CD43. Got the CD43, BMW plug adapter and antenna adapter from 95///M3's group buy thread (http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=32997&highlight=cd43+group+buy) about 6 months ago, after the group buy ended. No splicing or cutting wires it was strictly "plug and play". Works great. Might try emailing jimmy. Nice guy to deal with.

Is the CD43 still working in your 89 535i? I am looking for a replacement and it sounds like you have the exact setup as mine.

let me know

Thanks

Ken

It works like a champ. Don't know if Jimmy, who did the original group buy is still doing this.
It was very convenient and painless doing it through him, he provided the 2 adapters that made it plug and play.
The adapters had BMW part numbers and the radio if you look around you may find it for less.

Good Luck

Jim

Anyone know what those BMW part numbers were? I've heard there was some adapter from BMW to allow the older E34s (without the standard audio plug) wiring to be bundled in such a way that makes new radio installation easy (vs. manually cutting and splicing as you described).

I honestly donīt know, but the ones I posted are the ones needed to convert from the old harness to the new one!
So maybe you need to check what amount of connectors you have in there..
