If the U-joints go bad, are they servicebale?

I don't think so, but someone else will know for certain. Just checked e34.net, but no luck.

The U-joints are not removable or servicable in any way. The new shaft will be high priced, but well worth the effort to replace if you are getting vibration.

Actually you can have the U-joints replaced. I used Rockford #430-11 u-joints. I pulled the driveshaft out, took it to a local machine shop, they took out the old u-joints and replaced them with the rockfords. They have to machine a little off the yoke to get them to fit. Run out was around .003 inches if I remember right.
U-joints were around 10.00 t0 15.00 dollars each, machine shop charged 80.00 to replace them, also replaced carrier bearing.. That was 40,000 miles ago... still vibration free, total cost less than 150.00
