The central locking on my e34 89 is erratic to say the least the first time I lock it it reopens itself the second time I lock it it stays locked! do I just have a car that wants to be driven soo much she re opens herself or has anyone else experianced this phnomenon?

I would appreciate any help also my fuel and temp gauge have give up the ghost but thats for another time......

A hint, try searching for "doublelocking" the problem is pretty common.
It happends because one of the lock sylinders fail to lock, so the central lock ecu tryes a second time to lock the doors.

Very often it is a breach in the harness to the trunk lock is causing this.
try a search for "hinge harness"

And, it is enough with 1 thread about the subject.. I guess it was not in your intention to make 3.

Mines be doing it for years! The answer is well documented, mine is a lock cylinder not the rear harness, get stripping doors or live with it,I never forget to lock the car now.

Thanks for the advice i'll get right on it could I check by disconnecting the trunk lock or would that have the same effect do you think?

And no you were right it was not my intention to make 3 threads I had a little trouble with the system but I think im up to speed now!

the problem is either one of the door actuators or there may be a short circuit in the wiring on the left trunk hinge(behing the pastic sheath),not the trunk cylinder...the reason is that the car can be locked and unlocked from the trunk lock too,so a short circuit in the wiring on the hinge can send undesireable signals to the gm or rm causing the behaviour you describe.

Mine wont lock the trunk when I lock the car so I believe I know where the problem is. It just isnt that important right now...after 3 years of double locking im kinda used to it
