Yumpin yimminy! Can someone please translate those figures?
Is it an optical illusion or are there cylinder liners protruding above the block deck?

That car has been done for a while now. Its an S38 which obviously has the displacement over my 2.9L, but the M50 head is a better designed head so we'll see what serious boost gets me to. I also have direct port nitrous and methanol which that car does not have. He is running 3 intank pumps while I am running a -10AN fuel system with external pumps. So, in short, it'll be interesting to see what my car makes :)

That motor ain't clean... this motor is clean

They're called pyramid rings. It's a ring that protrudes from the block deck (machined out) and above the deck and actually cuts into the head. I am trying to avoid having to use that. I bored my studs out to 1/2" (from 10mm) and have 95 - 100 ft lbs torque clamp vs 65 ft lbs ;)

I wondered if that's what it was. Never saw 'em before. Are they soft? Good idea, no way they are going to blow out. From what I was able to understand that guy is running 1.8 bar ~25psi, healthy boost no doubt but that treatment seems overkill.

its actually not overkill with the way our heads are designed. The pyramid rings work very well, but there is one intrinsic issue. Blow out never occurs. So basically, if you detonate the hell out of the motor or over boost the crap out of it, your pyramid rings never let go. If you look on the intake manifold side of the block in that same picture you'll see a grove about 8mm wide and 2mm deep (how do I know those figures? hehehe) - this groove is an attempt to thin the rings seal there and let gases escape if something bad happens.

But since you don't have a hg to blow out all that load and shock translates right to the bottom end. Also worth mentioning is that the rings are stainless steel. So, they are pointy on the surface that interfaces with the head.... basically if you ever use them and take the head off, the head needs to be resurfaced.... S38B38 heads are $

Thats my old one - that actual engine will not be used by me. That's going in a buddies E30 M3 turbo swap we're doing. My real engine... the classified one haha... is, as of today done at the machine shop and being assembled on Saturday. I am thinking a more conventional black or grey paint scheme on it.

Speechless. The DV M5 is serious!

As always, look forward to seeing Jon K's newest goodies.
