OT - 'No Country for Old Men'

really enjoyed the film myself.

Was the point of the movie that things happen and life goes on and you cannot control what you think you can? I got that feeling as I watched it especially at the ending. Love the Coen bros. films. Like was said earlier, everything about this movie was great especially Javier Bardem.


i think that was part of it, and i think also it was about recognizing the fact that there is extreme evil in the world that is beyond the capacity of good men to fight. I think that's what the final scene was all about, learning that there are things that exist in the world that you had no idea were there and that you can never protect yourself from.

Whose seen it?
Saw it a couple of weeks ago and thought it was great.
Some friends saw it and didn't like it but they said the violence un-nerved them.

The acting, cinematography lighting and editing were all excellent.
The use of sound was also very well done.
Of course Anton Chigurh has to be the one of creepiest psychopathic son-of-a-bitch serial killers you'll see in a while.

And the dialog had some of the greatest lines...

Carla Jean: That'll be the day!

Carla Jean: Where d'ya get the pistol?

Moss: At the gettin' place.

Sherriff Bell: I don't know, he ought to... He seen the same things I seen and it made an impression on me.

Moss: What's he supposed to be... the ultimate badass?

Wells: I don't think that's how I would describe him.

Moss: How would you describe him?

Wells: I'd guess I'd say... that he doesn't have a sense of humor. His name is Chigurh.

The Coen brothers are back to their best. (ie. 'Blood Simple')

Sheriff Bell was approaching his retirement.
It's common for many in that situation to suddenly find themselves facing the final stage of their life and their own mortality.

Remember his dream at the end when he described seeing his father on horseback?
Bell says his father appeared younger in the dream than Bell himself was now.

Decent film, but...

Read the book. Cormack McCarthy...will mess with your head, in ways that make the Coen brothers look like amateurs.
