My 535i is idling really high and 'hunting' :(
Upon quizzing my mechanic today, he said it was the ICV dying, and when he tapped it, the car settled, and ran normally. He quickly followed this action with "These things are not cheap" :( ****... Just what I need!!
Found this one on EBay USA:

Thoughts?? Anyone used non-oem ICV like this one??

pull yours off and spray it clean with carb cleaner and shoot a little non sticky spray lube into it

I bought a used one for around 30$ on ebay and it works fine - it had piles of crap in it but i cleaned it like winfred says and it was like magic. you figure they'd at least clean them at the 'store' but what do you want for $30?

Additional:
I struggled for about 15mins to get the 535 to start today!!! Each time it failed, and I switched off the ignition, there was a harsh, raspy, repetitive buzz coming from the engine bay.
I opened the bonnet, and it turned out to be (yep, you guessed it) the ICV making this horrid noise!! I tapped it and it stopped, then the car started fine!!
I really need to replace this ICV. I sprayed it with Carby Cleaner, and then WD40 (some guys called Winfred suggested that... Who's he??), but its still stuffed.
Did anyone have a look at the ebay listing I posted in this topic?? Would that ICV be ok??

$149.300 is nothing special.
BMA has it for $130.92 and if you type in spece30 in the discount thingy, it goes down to $124.37 with free shipping.

Did you spray it with the ICV still in the car? It's much more effective if you clean it by taking it out first.

$112.49 Bosch at autohausaz... Located under Fuel Air System category. Looks like a typical Mercedes Air valve... different connection though.

definitely pulled it out first.
As for the price, I was told it was going to be 'expensive', so I imagined that $150 USD was cheap!!

Do you take off the black part of the ICV, or just spray carb cleaner in it's two holes that accept the hoses?

spray and shake
I did this as preventative maintainence. I used brake cleaner and sprayed and shook until the brake cleaner came back out clear. I havent had a problem with it yet.
