Yay vogtland (pics)

So ive heard good things about vogltand springs and that theyre pretty low, so i decided to try them out as well as the m5 spring pads. Picked up a set of springs for 200, pads for about 5$ each, and let the festivities begin!

Last night after work i put them in and took a few pics along the way, not really a write up but just some informative shots.

-So if you didnt know already, vogtlands are purple (i wasnt aware)

For the most part the install went incredibly easy, that was untill i decided to change my tie rods, drag link, and pitman arm while i was at it. (i didnt realize i didnt have a pickle fork) But after a quick run to the store all was well. I love how it drives although i have to bring it back to the alignment shop (they put my steering wheel crooked )

Wow, my sachs sport kit didn't do ****.
I'm ****ing pissed.

Don't buy the sachs kit, it rides nice but you get practically ZERO drop on the m20 525.

I went to a dealer for the pads, they where just under 5 bucks each.

Ive got those lousy springs with the KYB struts and it bottoms out over the smallest bumps when I have even just one passenger.
I am going to change the dampers out to bilstein sports and see what difference it makes but I feel that the spring rate is entirely too soft for the lowered ride height.

EDIT: I think it was the bavautos which received a poor evaluation at some point. It seems that some really like the vogtlands.

That looks good, it will probably settle a bit more in a while. Mine did over a few weeks, not a lot, but noticeable.

Charles: Surprised Sachs didn't give you any drop, I have the Sachs and it looks just about the same as in these photos. Is the M60 much heavier than the sixes?

Its part number 31 33 1 128 523. they had to order them but it only took 2 days

Currently i have the KYB gr-2 wich for the price i like a lot. I havent had any issues with bottoming out like others have said. And if you know how New England roads are....

So, why not just cut off the old springs exactly one turn, at the bottom?

Use a Dremel tool with cutoff wheel, so avoid heating the spring steel.

I don't recall Jeff having an issue with the Vogtlands. IIRC, though when I looked into it, Vogtland didn't make a set for the 530s. I went with Eibach's on mine.

Yep, I think I mixed it up due to the old, unresolved who produces/supplies vogtland/bavauto springs question. MAybe jeff had issue with bavautos? He'd have to answer that one.

I too went with the eibach and am very glad I did.

yeah... cutting springs is not a good idea. all you need is to hit a bump the certain way and bam spring flys out of the mount. Not to mention the increase in spring rate

That could be done in theory, i think a few have done it. These springs are a little bit stiffer as i think the actual coil is larger in diameter (not by much). My car actually had 2 different springs on the front as the PO did some fishy repairs. One spring was half a turn less than the other, yet same length.

Happy with the Vogtlands on my Audi, I have Eibach on the 525i manual, just recently got Bavarian to put on the auto 525i. Hope to be happy the same with the 2 other brands.

it was the bav autos that sagged too much for the V8, and the Bilsteins that brew their internal bumpstops, and anoter froze up. I have Eibach now and Sachs/boge plus the M5 thrust bushings and so far a bulletproof assembly.

....because then you mess with the spring rate, this is a bad, bad idea and can lead to a car that handles in an unsafe manner.
