It depends where you are located as to whether this is economic to do.
If you're in the UK it would be cheaper to get another 520 than pay someone to replace the sills. If you're not bothered about aesthetics plate over it for the MOT, should be less than £100.
Rotten sills was one of the (many) reasons I scrapped my 525 e34.

Hi,
Yesterday my jack punched a hole in the sill, obviously due to rust damage.
Has anyone replaced rotten sills?
Can you buy replacement sills or will I have to get them fabricated?
Any advice would be welcome.
Car is a 1989 520 E34.
Cheers
Pete

As the sills provide structural stability, would patching them up be safe?
The rust may extend without showing on the outside. I guess I'll have to get my hammer out!
By the way, I am in the UK.

I dont think he meant bog them up:D Best bet is get a few quotes to see if its worth doing. Also check for any other bits that may need attention-anything within about a foot of a suspension mount is likely to mean a fail
