the problem with e34 is the ashtray have to be opened to plug in accessories via the lighter point.
has anyone here thought of or done an elegant solution for powering accessories that comes with lighter point plug.

my 520i glove box does not have a flashlight outlet - must be because it's an entry level model - anyway does anyone has a picture of what it looks like.

My 91 also has the rear power outlet. I didn't know there was 12V in the glove compartment as well.

...a few months ago I got fed up with all the extra cables all over the shifter area whenever I wanted to plug in my cell for recharging. I found a donor car and got the charge socket from it which I then used to add to the panel at the rear of the center vents facing the rear seats. I added the socket to the rear center of this panel and then dremelled new holes for the alarm light and sensor and relocated them either side of the socket for a reasonably clean look. I will post photos later when I get home of this fix. Finding power was easy as I just ran a fused connection to the battery directly under the carpet trim and I can always disconnect it whenever I park for a few days so it does not draw too much on the battery itself. I now lay the phone in the small recess at the top rear of this console area. Voila!

my '91 has the rear power outlet that gets constant 12v
wondering what year that feature was removed?

...and had only the sensor and light for the alarm. I wonder if this was an option rather than a delete for sake of cost? What I would really like to get is the driver's side glovebox which is still available in black but not cheap.

Was standard on E32 750 in EURO version (not U.S.) and optional for all others.

looks like about 93 they became accessory instead of constant on...
But all the ones I have ever seen with 'factory' alarms came with the rear console blank plate for the alarm's mic and led.
I love mine... spent $12 on the plate, and got a lighter socket that appears identical to the oem one for $6 or so.

Have a real one sitting here but it is old and ugly and i don't like the connector or the way the light is supposed to work. A lot easier to wire up the aftermarket one
Just need a real oem element (one day when I'm thinking about it) since I refuse to take the one out of the front
