I got a request from one of the chip wizzards in Germany for a spare U.S. version cluster code plug.
U.S. version has some features incoprorated which are not on the ECE versions, for example
warning sign 'belts on?', 'side markers' and so on.
Does someone have a spare one he does not need anymore or which he can sent directly to Germany for some time to copy?
U.S. version only, not ECE.
Thanks for your help.

yep,
I did not forget you. Will ask him too. But probably you have to send it to him for the "modification".

definitely not, they like in Germany the additional 'gongs' and warnings such as
side lights? (German cars have no side lights, but they add these from US models)
seat belts?
ignition key?
and what else you have in the US
So he needs a U.S. chip to read the system and to copy that into German chips.
All these basic data are in the chip in the cluster.

@Jon K
Just sent you his address for airmaling your chip there, he will do it for you, whatever you want to have indicated. Send it to him.
If you have different wheels/tires/differential/final drive and the speed indicator is not working properly, he can also readjust that, I assume.
Just tell him what you want.
@Blitzkrieg Bob:
details in PM, thanks
Gongs, they like the gongs? Hell they can have my car it's got gongs all right.
GONG, fog light....GONG, license light...GONG, washer fluid low...GONG, brake linings....

Put it on German Ebay, offer it as
"THE US GONG VERSION, SPECIAL EDITION"
Probably you get a very nice price then :p

Hey Shogun, have they got any posts on the german forum where they detail which parts of the code plug contain which info. I have a little info that was linked from Johan&Sean's site, but have a lot of gaps to fill in my understanding.

special thanks to Hawai for sending the chip to Germany to EEk28.
Here a video, first modification on his German one, he copied from your U.S. chip the belt warning, which is not on the EU version

We'll see how much they like all these additional warnings when the gongs start.
So what was the assumption for the differences anyway? Did the Bavarians figure us Americans needed to be hit over the head to notice a failure?

Probably it was required by regulations in the U.S.?

Hi Shogun, thanks for the reference.
That texted is pulled from the rom in the cluster itself, not the code plug. The code plug is much too small to fit all of that detail in it.
There is some very interesting ideas and work being done in there.
