I just got my new DEPO lights, and I noticed that the connector for the lights has a red socket for the bulb to slot into and then sort of a free floating black socket. Does this black socket plug into the small steel cylinder thing on the back of the light? It doesn't seem to attach to the bulb in any way.

I think I understand what you are saying, There is a wire from the black socket - the steel part of the light is sticking up from the backplate beside where you would insert the bulb.
Thanks for the help!

There should be a wire that attaches to the black piece and if i remember correctly there should be a red wire with a socket that fits over the end of the H1 bulb. Then the black back twists on to the steel part of the light. If you need a picture let me know.
Black goes into the headlamp... the one spade that comes out beside the bulb.
