hello gentlemen....I was referred to you guys by a trusting member of the board as you guys know your parts and what to buy for the e34....
well im going to make it short and simple....
what do you think of this set up?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E34-5-Series-Control-Arms-88-89-90-91-92-93-94-95_W0QQitemZ250217762234QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item25 0217762234

all I hear is lemforder this and lemforder that but with all the money im going to spend on parts i might as well buy a new car....

they call it m5 upgrades because the lower control arms are alloy and not steel. the thrust arm bushes are not the m5 type.

That auction is still an awesome value package, you could call a dealer for a quote OR that would be an equivilant to adding a "0" to the end of the auction price.

you dont necessarlily need to buy everything in that kit....If you are on a budget you should start twith the control arms to see if that solves your shimmy.Otherwise you have 650 worth of parts which you may or may not have needed AT THIS TIME.Just make sure you do the job right,or the place you take it to does it right.

you've been here for in excess of 2 years, and likely heard all that has to be said about this subject. me, i'd rather go down to the junkyard, find a e34 with no obvious front end damage, and use the lemforder components off that vehicle before i go down this road again. curiously, i've had a broke-dick lemforder thrust arm with a new bushing and new balljoint boot outlast a new h-t item put on at the same time. i may be cheap, but i'm not stupid. my installation skills had nothing to do with the failure, as both were put on at the same time. perhaps it has something to do with the fact that i drive at least 12k a year on the e34, whereas some people use their vehicles as second cars. also, fcp groton makes you buy a new item before they complete your warranty transaction.

My front suspension is Karlyn, It's about a year old and has 12K miles on it now. I replaced one of the Karlyn end links shortly after installation with a Meyle part due to an installation issue on my part. The Meyle replacement part looked to be a better part. When I replaced my brakes about a month ago I noticed the boots on the other Karlyn end link were shot. No noise yet though so I haven't done anything with it. All other parts seem to be holding up well.

I defiantly don't want to buy crap but at the same time I don't want to spend a fortune on a car that is 15 yrs old with almost 160k.
I mean I love the car and all but I'm just afraid that I will put all this money into a car that is just about to have another huge problem in like a month...I've had this car since Sept 2001 and it has treated me well, especially after all the crap I have put it through =)
And as far as start with just the control arms go...I wanted to buy everything because when I am down there and have everything apart...the other part is just a bolt away and would be worth my time instead of having to change it all again in a month
What is the best website that sells lemforder at the best rate?

Wherever you will buy it, Lemfoerder is very expensive.
Febi, Meyle and some others like TRW are also o.k.

Winfred here. To me its definitely not worth the time and effort to install anything Meyle or Hamburg technics, which are both the same company anyway. By way of explanation, Meyle/hamburg technics is a distributor of parts that recently started manufacturing some parts. But with most of their parts its definitely a crap shoot since they buy from many different places, china and taiwan and the quality varies alot.
With lemforder the prices aren't that much higher and the longevity is there.
Unless they are counterfeit parts ,which is happening more and more.
Febi is Bilstein which is good quality also... Febi stands for Ferdinand Bilstein, take the first two letters of his first and last name and you get Febi.
Same thing with Oxygen sensors and similar parts. Bosch original O2 sensors that you buy from the bmw dealer are nothing like the Bosch aftermarket replacement ones that you get from Autozone, checkers and a million other small parts . I won't use bosch aftermarket and prefer to buy Denso or NTK brands instead since i have a lot less trouble with them.

Bill,
I very, very seldom disagree with you.
Meyle is a German company

quote
The impressive new headquarters in Hamburg was completed in 2006, with 17,000 square meters of floor space providing ample room for the over 9,000 items in the MEYLE catalogue. Today, together with the affiliated companies, we have 1,150 employees worldwide, an annual turnover of over 220 million Euro and operate in over 120 countries.

And that is all what they have in common. Meyle headquarters is in Hamburg Germany, and Hamburg Technic uses Hamburg as name.
Hamburg Technic has a small office in Wiesbaden/Germany, but it is a U.S. Company

swear that i saw an article somewhere linking Meyle and Hamburg technics back when they first started appearing everywhere. I can't find it so i may be wrong. Still doesn't change my opinion of Meyle and HT parts though.

i've gotten some crappy meyle parts but nothing like hamburg technic, i knew a guy with a e30 that got one of those front end packages off ebay that came with m3 bushings and they lasted all of 3 weeks before they cracked up and started falling apart

Bill,
no need to apologize ;)
I also mixed Meyle and Hamburg Technic up, maybe even last year. Also thought they are the same company.
Just wanted to tell what has been checked on the German forum.
Hamburg Technic wants to give themselves with the name an image of made in Germany or German background.
One guy on the German forum who lives in the same city commented, the adress is an office building for many companies, but no production at all there.
Also sometimes word combinations are used such as
Hamburg Technic Germany OEM HEAVY DUTY......
BTW:
I am trying since some time to get an answer from Cardone if I could directly send them brake master and brake booster units H31 for E32 750 for reman.
http://www.cardone.com/english/club/
I do not want to buy/send to companies like rockauto.com and similar, which just mark up and just operate as in between.
So far no success. First answer last year: pls send to our nearest authorized dealer. But there is no one here in Japan. Do you do direct business with them?
If so, maybe I could send them to you and you have some business instead of the big dealers.
Not so much in a hurry about that, have to leave for Germany this Sunday for 2 weeks business trip anyway and no accesss to the board then due to travelling.

I use that setup, it's wonderful with the sachst sport kit, but it will squeak when you turn the steering wheel after around a thousand miles - but nothing is wrong with it, just the polyeurathane.
I LOVE IT.
