best solution for a lazy tach: drive at 7000 rpm for 2 hours.

When I changed my gauge cluster, the tach has been inaccurate and at times the needle goes back to sleep at 0 RPM. A little tap on the dash usually brings her back sometimes more fore is required. I've noticed this is throwing off my MPG and RANGE, is this the clusters fault? all the plugs are in correctly, nothing seems to be dirty or damaged...

The guage pins and the sockets need cleaning and tightening.
