I'm lost on this problem. Need help please.
My 1990 535ia has the strangest dash issue. Randomly it will shut off Freeze, in which all Digital displays and Temp/gas gauges stay at the values they were at when it froze - even with the key out of the ignition. Also when this happens the OBC and Cruise Control quit working. The Tach and Speedo sometimes stop, sometimes keep working. It's all very erratic.
From what I've read on the boards, which have awesome info, It can be
#1) Aux Heater Pump gone bad - how do I check this, what's it look like and located?
#2) Dash board Capacitors - First off my dash circuit board is of a different design than the one on bmwe34.net, so I'm a bit more wary of digging into it. Also would the bad capacitors affect the OBC and Cruise Control?
#3) Something Else - unfortunately I have not been able to find another dash to swap in to see if the problems continue, which would be a great help for troubleshooting but currently unavailable to me.
Any help or Troubleshooting guidance would be great.
Thanks in advance!
