When replacing rear subframe bushings (part number 33-31-1-128-670), or mounts as they are really called by BMW, do you usually need to also replace the actual bushings (part # 33-17-1-131-903). There is a lot of confusion on which part really fails or wears out often on E34's. I am assuming it is the mounts that you read and hear about a lot, but I don't want to get in there and discover that the bushing are bad as well and have to put back together and order the "other" bushings. What is everyones experience with that?

I'm guessing you wouldn't have to remove the subframe Mounts again if youhave already done them . You could just move the plate and remove the nuts then if you need to drop the subframe to change the diff carrier bushings. I am having mine into a shop next tuesday. I;m confident if the diff carrier bushings were bad they'll be done then. How you'd know they're bad is beyond me though. You might imagine if driving extensively with broekn mounts the excess movement and loads might also be deliterious to the carrier bushings.
