Anyone need an Automatic tranny for a 530?

I did a 4.0 + 6spd swap and have a recently-rebuilt automatic tranny left over (my car was a 530iT prior to the swap). It is in excellent condition and shifted very smoothly.

Not looking for much - but I have no use for it, and I don't want to just throw it away...

Yes - it will fit any E34 V8 car - 530iA's included. In fact, this is the same tranny you have in your 530iA right now.

I know it will physically mount onto a 4.0 V8 but I don't know if it is the "correct" tranny for that motor.

And, again, this tranny was recently rebuilt by an authorized factory rebuilder - it is a smoothly functioning piece of equipment. The previous owner of my car is a member here and can speak to this, as it was done under his ownership.

I think this should be a 5HP18 (for the 530's) the 540's have a 5HP30...I don't know what the differences are if any...

Yes, the 540's have the 5HP30, which is different than the one for the 530. The tranny on the 530 can't handle to power the 540 puts out. Yes, you could bolt it up to a 540, but I think you'd need a lot of different stuff as well since I think the 5HP30 is bigger than the tranny on the 530. You'd probably need the driveline from the 530, the flex disc, etc.

Certainly don't waste you time trying to fit a 530 auto tranny to a 540 as it's only a matter of time before the 540 destroys a 530 tranny.

It was a kirt koeller rebuild. $2100 with core exchange. Good as new as far as I was concerned. Don't know why I vouch for this tranny when I can't get one single pic of that new engine bay, shifter and seats....

yes, it's a fine transmission. Probably has less than 10k on it
