The e39 540i DSSR works in my car! Preforms great! noticible feedback, firmer shifts and reduced left to right play in shifts.

Yessir! My pop has a e39 540i, jacked his car up put it in and set the car down, started her up and the thing cant get into reverse, 1st or 2nd. The shifter carrier was in the way.

On my e34 the carrier was not in the way! So, it fits!
thanks for the info it seems I might have to pick one of those up......ait a minute you ordered a 540 dssr and it didnt fit on your 540?

Yessir! My pop has a e39 540i, jacked his car up put it in and set the car down, started her up and the thing cant get into reverse, 1st or 2nd. The shifter carrier was in the way.

On my e34 the carrier was not in the way! So, it fits!

what i dont get is why would UUC make a part for the 540 only to have it not work?

Correct. On the e34 I replaced the part no. 11 in this diagram

The part no. 1 in the diagram is different for the e34 525i and the e39 540i

The 540i has a notch in it that the UUC DSSR hits and blocks you from getting into the left hand gears (R 1,2)

You can see the slight difference in this diagram

The "shifting arm" (no. 2) is different.

It must have been disappointing to find that the dssr did not fit the e39 540. When I saw your thread originally I thought this might be a nice upgrade for my car. I find it strange that the dssr does not work though because UUC has a dssr for a e34 6-spd M5, and the e34 540i6, e39 540i6 and e39 M5 all have the same model getrag transmission but have different UUC part numbers.

It is because the Shifter carriers are different. you can see it in the diagrams.
