dude - it's an abomination!

it's also very very heavy for such a small car!

but i suppose an upgrade over a focus.

I'm also seriously considering a 135i once school is done. I think the 1 series' are nice.

So I'm a signature away from ordering a 1 series for my wife's birthday... dump the Focus :)

128i Coupe, 6spd (yay!)
Alpine White
Black leatherette
Gloss black trim (or Poplar Grey Wood)
Premium pack
- sunroof
- xenon
- lights pack (?)
- BMW assist with btooth
USB/iPod integration

MAYBE: Comfort pack
- keyless access (touch the door/proximity or something)
- Dimming int/ext mirror

3 series is definitely not in mind. The other option is an A3 (ugh) or B Class (gah!). A quick test drive of both dissuaded that notion. I'm excited that there is a 6spd in the family... though not mine :| thoughts?

You know, I thought that too, till I saw a white one in person. It's so damn cute. Test drove the 135 and it's peppy. Nice note. Granted the actual product is a 128 but still :) It's helluva upgrade on a Focus.

135i or ban. They're growing on me, fast. I'll want one when I'm done with college, I'm sure.

Well I think it looks tidy. Lot better than a bunch of flowers. Hope 'er indoors is suitably grateful. You might be tempted to drive if nobody is looking

Love you choice! Two thumbs up! I, unlike most, like the way this car looks.
Just curious, why not the 135i?

I heard by a specialist in BMW mods that it's an excellent candidate for upgrades; not as heavy as a 3, and from what I gather not as assisted in driving than an M3 would be. 135i: dual turbo if I remember correctly from that conversation.

Tons of fun.

I got stuck behind a white 128i Friday. I must say it is a pretty cool looking car. I think I'll stick with my 540i6 for now though ;)

I test drove the 128i yesterday, I liked it! I think it had a lot of pep, the handling was great... but the price tag was steep in comparison to something like a slightly used 330ic. Regardless, you've gotta be happy with what you're driving, I like the new 1 series, but drop the price and you'll catch more life time BMW owners versus keeping the price as it is. My replacement for my e34 will definitely be the M6 or the 650ic... love that car! :D

Enjoy the new car!

135i is freakin' sweet. 300 horse, 300 pound feet at 1400rpm. 6-piston front calipers. 'nuff said.

Why not 135i? Price. It still remains to be seen. Date of delivery is end of May so :)

While at my local dealer begging to borrow a tool from their special tools crib I had a lookie at the 1er. My impression was the minimized Bangle styling resulted in it looking like an inverted bathtub, especially the convertible.
I don't think the style will wear well, even if you like it now.

It'll be fine... until they facelift it in 3 years :)

Comfort Access

"Also available for the first time on a BMW in this class is Comfort Access. All cars receive a newly designed key that replaces the conventional blade-type key but with Comfort Access the key contains an ID Sensor that the car recognises from a short distance away. On recognition, the doors are unlocked automatically and the car can be started with one push of the starter button. The Comfort Access system also works in tandem with BMW's familiar key memory system to ensure that the seating position, door mirrors, personalised air conditioning settings and radio reception are automatically adjusted to the current drivers' settings before they enter the car.

Walking up to his BMW properly locked and secured, all the driver has to do with Comfort Access is pull the door handle in order to open the door. Then, as he is taking his seat at the wheel, the Personal Profile functions serve to adjust, say, the driver’s seating position, the automatic air conditioning and the radio station according to the driver’s personal requirements.

Over and above these three functions, Car & Key Memory (CKM) also sets the interior and exterior mirrors, the central locking and interior lights, the audio system sound effects and, in a car appropriately equipped, the presentation on the Control Display as well as the voice entry setting.

Once the driver is ready to go, he simply presses the start/stop button. Once he has reached his destination, in turn, he presses the same button to switch off the engine. Then, placing his finger on the marked surface on the door handle after getting out and closing the door, he automatically locks and secures the car without requiring any further action. If he has forgotton the ID sensor in the car the doors will not lock and the driver will receive an appropriate warning. And should the electronic key control system ever fail to operate, the driver can insert the ID sensor into a slot in the instrument panel in order to drive the car just as conveniently the “conventional” way."

There's a saying in French that goes something like "Night brings good counsel."

Well, you'll have to drive back to Montreal again to show us that sweet thing ;)

it is heavier than I expected.
depreciation is a killer.
its not an M.
I was into it big time, sure its a BMW, however barely practical for my needs.

good luck with your wife's new ride

For her, it's perfect. The only BMW she'd want... else it's a Jeep. What would YOU have done? :) 300bhp/6...it'll be more fun than the 540..mmmmm
