DIY e34 Paint Job - How much time & money did you spend?

My doors are rusting on the outside skins. The car is 18 years old and had 220,000+ miles on it. I figured if I was going to go through the excersise of painting the doors, I would consider doing the whole car. For those that have sprayed your cars all I am interested in is a scuff, prime and shoot. Bumper covers off no major repairs. How long was your car our of service? How much did you spend on materials ?
