Automatic Steptronic Sport Mode

Im still sort of confused with this driving mode, and cant find any good information about it.....what i know is that it brings the performance similar to that of a manual or the same as???? meaning a quicker acceleration.....

Hopefully i can get some help as to what it really means.....
