sorry o hear that,but something is wrong.....sounds like coolant in the oil.You need to get a bentley manual,I think you need new bolts when you put the head back on...of course its also possible tha the head is cracked or warped

you dont think you accidently added a quart of paint when buttoning it up do you?

hi, My name is James.
i have a 1990 525 w/ m20 calfornia car...
replaced piston and head after timing issure :-(
now I have whiteish oil in cam oil spray bar and valvecover
as well as pan. bad head gasket ??? im pretty sure i torqed it
down right ...it was a brand new elring ... ne ideas ? or experience
putting on head gasket??? also it overheats if i drive it newhere...
obvious if there is an oil problem..

Yep, coolant in your oil. Quit driving it until it's fixed or things will get much worse.
head gasket or cracked head are most likely

I think this is bad news...i had emulsified oil in my rad and overheated, you can also get water in your oil, i am in the middle of changeing the cyclinder head, M20s tend to crack, i got mine from Corry Cylinders http://corrycylinderheads.co.uk/ around £500ish (inc VAT). I'll let you know how it goes...if i can get the exhaust manifild off.
