The above post also described the incident which resulted in delay of completion for my 6 speed conversion a good six months when I connected the wrong wires to cause a run away engine cranking after shutting down ignition.
You'll be faced with a trans program message after completing the conversion. It does not hinder the drive. But the check control message is annoying. There are a number of ways to get rid of it. This is how I did it.

I should add everything you need to know about the wiring is online somewhere. I've got to tip my hat to BMW. These Germans are so thorough even the location of every wiring connector is described in the ETM, let alone every piece of electrical equipment.
