Hellow all,
I just finished a 5-speed conversion on my e34 525iT. There is no plug for my clutch switch. first, will this keep it from starting. Second, how do I wire it up so the cruise will work.
thanks,
James
Here's the part number for the clutch switch:
61 31 8 360 421
Follow the wire from the brake light switch back up the harness and you should find the clutch wires & 2-prong plug taped up. If you have the bracket on the pedal cluster for mounting the switch, it should be easy. Otherwise you'll have to improvise a bracket for the clutch pedal.
Determine which relay in the fuse box is the starter relay, BMW moves them around from one year to the next. Should be orange but on earlier models, the one on the left is the horn. Make a jumper and plug into the socket for terminals 30 and 87 as labeled on the bottom of the relay:

If you get a 4-prong brake light switch, you can run 2 wires up to the relay socket and have an interlock so you can have the added safety for having to depress the clutch in order to start. The brake switch is actually 2 separate single-pole switches, one normally open, the other normally closed, being 1-2 and 3-4 as labeled on the switch. Use an ohm-meter to verify which one is which.

Thanks for the info and the pics. I will go in search of the taped up plug.
Much thanks,
James
