View Full Version : Manual seat rails? Or, any way to lower the seat?

I take my 535i on the track about a half dozen times per year. I'm 6'5" tall and with a helmet I'm hitting my head on the ceiling. I have to slide down a bit in the seat, and lean it back which makes it pretty hard to drive.

I was thinking of either picking up a cheap aftermarket racing seat (which will sit lower) and swapping it in for track days or (better IMO) figuring out how to lower my stock seat.

Are there any E34s out there with manual seat rails, and do they lower the car at all? Has anyone ever lowered their seat successfully?

I have the manual seat in my touring.

first lever is the tilt function. Second is the slidere fwd and bkwd. Third is the recline when you pull it up. Pushing down on the lever lowers it pretty extensively. My 6'4" friend got comfortable with it all the way back and all the way lowered.

this pic shows the longish lever as the one you push down on
