Question as above...
If yes, where is it located and when should it be replaced?

Did mine yesterday, thing was totally clogged and had a half inch of dirt in the bottom... my 1 setting is now almost what 4 used to be.
Can't believe the PO never changed it.

Thanks! Exactly what I needed.
We have winter here now so fan is on setting 1 and and not used that much. Will definitely change mine before summer comes and the A/C will be working over time.

If your car is RHD (I'm not sure if South Africa have their wheel on the right side) then the instructions as pasted by Travis_WA are of no use to you, as you have a steering column in the way and the process is different. The filter is also different as it is split in the middle to accommodate inserting it with a steering column in the way.
Also, apparently not all E34s had pollen filters.

If you used A/C a lot, you should change it once a year. The blower will blow much cooler air.
