Vanos or Non Vanos?????

hi, how do i tell the difference between a vanos and a non-vanos engine on an e34 520i m50?

there is also another thing i need to square up. i have seen that there is a m50 and an m50tu what is the difference?

The M50tu is the VANOS engine, the tu stands for technical update. Starting with model year 1993 BMW switched to the M50tu.

If I am not mistaken, the m50tu is the m50 with vanos.
