How do I remove that lock stem from an Auto shift knob from an E39?

yes, want to see a pic of my knob? I probably cant use the gray stem, so I'll need to replace it with my current one.

I'm trying to do the E38/39 Shift and Surround Mod but I don't have any info on how to wire up the new surround with all the functions and how to prperly install the E39 shift KNOB. haha
