Hey all,
I am looked at this http://www.bmw4life.com/stompTest.htm which shows you what is wrong with your car, did anyone ever try this? I tried doing what they tell you, pressing the pedal all the way and removing it 5 times in 5 seconds but nothing ever happened.

Just wondering if it only works on specific models or what is the story behind it?

Works on my car. Need to have the key in position 2 for it to work as I recall. But one thing that's different on my car is that it will repeat the code/codes until you turn the ignition off. It doesn't stop after the code is displayed like that page says. So I don't need to re-do the test over and over again as it just cycles over and over again by itself.

But I also have a very, very late build E34. And it is a little different than most E34's.

Euro production cars donīt have the stomp test and check engine lamp unless its retrofitted..

It can require a little bit of a "touch"

I found in mine that if I did it fast it wouldn't work...

Key to 2...

Then gas petal to the floor 5 times.... make sure you are hitting the kickdown switch... do about 1 kick a second and it "should" work.

You take off the wheel, remove the dash and find there is no bulb in the check light socket. Put a bulb in and it still wont work. Despite what the Pope says, BMW decided euro owners dont have rhythm:D

Rofl..

Hereīs a way to connect it,with pics but in swedish tho :( (I havenīt bothered yet):

http://www.autopower.se/mekartips/mekartips.asp?dokid=88

Basically (lousy translation :D) it says:

"pin 8 in the databox should be Check Engine and go to the dash, on a M50 -92.
On a M30 its pin 15 instead.

pin 3 in the white 26-pol contact on the dash should go to the databox..

The white contact youīll have to take apart."

Yes, many people have tried it. Many have succeeded. My 535i does the code flash on command. As mentioned by several previous posters, certain E34 models did not have the code readout feature (either missing bulb/burned out bulb/no wire connection for bulb at all). Specifically, european cars. Are you in europe? Also, there have been many threads on the subject of engine codes on this forum. Try a quick search and chances are you'll find plenty of hits.
