I'm finally taking my car to get painted around the beginning of July. Sorry I haven't posted to my other thread (http://www.bimmernut.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34801)lately, but the car is almost done and I've just been to busy with work to get anywhere with documenting it. That will come in a bit, but I need some guidance on how to get my car painted. I'm taking it to a professional and he is going to repaint the exterior original color (Island Green) and replace all the exterior trime (wipers, black trim, etc.). However, what should I do with the front, rear and side valences? Should I do it all body color or paint the lower parts black or something? I'm having difficulty finding good pictures of green e34 examples.
I'm trying to go for a clean stock sleeper look to hide the 360+rwhp beast that lies within :D

black along the body in my opinion makes the car appear longer and sleeker than the body color same down there. In comparison the all 1 color looks bubbly tall to me... google E34 and check out pictures of both before you decide, the all 1 color was available on newer E-34s if that matters any.
Good luck and may the oranges stay on the tree not in the paint.

The single color paint was at least in the US only on '95 E34's.
So if you want it to appear stock stick with the skirting in black.

I would definitely suggest painting the lower skirting/rocker panels the same color as the car as it makes the car look lower, in my opinion. As far as the trim that encircles the car, it's up to you. I think it can look good painted the same color as the car, but can also look good black.
When you see a black BMW, everything is essentially the same color and it looks good so it should work with other colors, right?

Yeah I think so, especially Alpine White E34s

I have a resprayed island green metallic 525i
I left the trim black and the lower valences. If I would have painted them they would be all pitted with rock chips by now. The trim strips I reused but recently polished them with a buffer and some rubbing compound. They glossed up nicely and now I never have to use any dressing on them. The door handles are next along with new gaskets.
In my neighborhood there is a kid with a e34 that they painted everything from top to bottom. looks like complete garbage. You have to at least leave the door handles and the trim strip with the reflectors black for it not to look like to brought it to Maaco.
