Scrap metal yard would pay for that aluminum arm.

is it worth the gas to go down there though?
ithrow stuff like that in my recycle bin...
or wait for one of the scrap metal collectors to come around and give it to them.

just hate to see such a 'cool' part meet that kind of fate....

Those were stock on the M5 and possibly the M-sport models. I don't think they came stock on a 525iA, my guess would be is those had far less than 150k on them. I recently replaced my arms with aluminum ones.

The al ones last as well as the steels. ONly worth tossing them when the joints go bad- the lower bushings last very well. This means you can expect 130000 miles/180,000km or 15 years out of them on medium-bad metro roads I reckon- perhaps much more on good tarmac...
Oh, and they might come stock on all M50 and M60-powered cars as well as M5.

my 7/91 525i has aluminum colored lemforders, and the PO likely never changed them.

I cut the ball joint off with an angle grinder and knock out the bushing, then put a rope loop through the hole and keep it under my seat in case I have to tune up another driver.
Knock out the bushing? For a kinder, gentler tune up?

Yeah, the bushing is usually kinda dirty, and the whole it mounts into makes a good pommel. Just scrub the aluminum up and it makes a nice NBC club
