Calling all lock actuators

Last night I took my rear door lock actuator apart and cleaned the motors. The motors had rusted up and would no longer turn. Once I got the actuator apart I removed the motors and cleaned them up with electrical contact cleaner. Reassembled the actuator added a little lubricant here and there and it now works great. I am currently looking for replacement bellows. Anyone interested in having their actuators rebuilt send me a private message. If you have any actuators lying around that no longer work let me know.

Flushing the rust and water out and hopefully relubricating isn't a rebuild.

It is when you have to open it up and remove the motors. I have a 1989 535i these actuators are not as easy to open as the later models. They are either glued or melted closed. Lots of fun getting them open without the gears flying everywhere :)

Ha could only read about every 10 word but I managed to register. Looked at the pics. My actuator looks simular but does not have the relay on top. This one looks pretty clean mine was a rusted mess.

A lot of fun. I have a friend sending me some actuators to rebuild. Hopefully by the time they come I will have the bellows

so how did you manage to bust them open? I have a dead one I'd like to experiment with but never figured out how to semi-safely open the thing. Looks like its meant to be tamper proof.

Remove the boot and working from boot end use an x-acto and slow open/pry at the glue line. Once you have a small opening go at it with a small screw driver. Go slowly and work your way around the two halves. Get ready for small parts to fall out. So work over a bench. I have carpet on mine so parts don't bounce :-) Shogun gave a link to a german site that has pics

You will have to register to see the pics. I used the same registration as on the bimmernut site. Pics are good but the actuator has different guts than the one on my 89 535i.

Nope never did. I did find one place but the prices were ridiculous. Did manage to repair them but without the bellows they will fail again soon

Oopsie. I see what you mean. For those prices, you could score a good used actuator. I think I paid about 30 bucks for one a few years ago.
